About the movement

Urban Dansdagen invites you to step into a world of movement, connection, and creativity. The street and clubstyles are a vibrant culture with an inspiring community. We are a movement of many styles: breaking, house dance, hip hop freestyle, experimental hip hop, electro dance, breaking and vogue are just a few examples. We dance in productions, battles and jams, we build communities all over the country where we use our dance culture to inspire and connect. You can find us in the clubs, dance schools, theater and television, jamming on the streets and modeling on billboards.

Once a year we bring all of it together during the Urban Dansdagen in Eindhoven. Through engaging battles, performances, and workshops, Urban Dansdagen breaks down barriers, inspiring connection and celebration.  Join us and be part of the rhythm.

Bridging worlds

The birth of Urban Dansdagen

Urban Dansdagen was first organized in December 2017, driven by the need to bridge the gap between the raw, often unpolished character of urban dance and the more formalized world of theatre. In collaboration with partners such as Parktheater Eindhoven (including Iselle Claassens), Mad Skills (including Angelo Martinus), and Collabros (including Tyrone van der Meer), a platform was created that offered space for battles, showcases, and the Dutch Breakdance Championships.

The first edition took place on December 9 and 10, 2017 at Parktheater Eindhoven and marked the start of an annual festival that celebrates the full scope and depth of urban dance in the Netherlands.

The best qualities of this diverse culture

The Culture of R.E.A.L.

The urban jungle is home of many global dance styles, some famous like breaking and hip hop dance, others more niche and upcoming like experimental and electro. What started on the streets of New York and Los Angeles in the 1970s evolved in a world wide movement and dozens of styles. Popping, Locking, Street Dance, House Dance, Krump, Clowning, Electro, Breaking, Waacking, Vogue, Hip Hop Choreography, Hip Hop Freestyle, Bone Breaking, Turfing, Flexing, Jooking, Footworking, Light Feet, Animation, Waving, Boogaloo, Threading, Afro styles, Dance hall styles, Experimental movement, Urban Contemporary movement are an extensive list different dance genres with vibrant communities and brilliant dancers.

These styles are often times framed in the terminologies like urban, street and club styles, funk or experimental styles but we call the REAL. Real stand for Raw Energetic Authentic Live and sums up the best qualities of this diverse culture. Every young generation brings their new way, new music and new community but the core stays the same if you participate and contribute you are considered real by your peers. Real transcends all genders, colors and social positions. Real in its core about music and dance.
